Pink Shirt Day
In 2007, Nova Scotia secondary students David Shepherd and Travis Price saw a grade nine student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. In an effort to stand up for the student, they purchased 50 pink shirts and distributed them to other students, who wore them in solidarity. Since David and Travis’ act of kindness in 2007, the spirit of their effort has grown each year. In 2018, people in almost 180 countries shared their support of Pink Shirt Day through social media posts and donations. (For more information, visit the official website for Pink Shirt Day.)
Next Wednesday –February 27, 2019—is Pink Shirt Day. This year's focus is on cyberbullying. We will be encouraging our students, as they learn about social media safety, to always THINK before they post anything. Before posting anything, we are prompting students to ask themselves if what they are posting is: True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and Kind. Please encourage your child to wear a Pink Shirt to school on February 27, 2019. Let’s promote kindness and stand up to bullying this coming Wednesday, and every day.

Lunar New Year
This Tuesday, February 5th
will be the Lunar New Year!
We welcome all those who celebrate the holiday to dress up in traditional New Year clothing, if they wish. We welcome all of our students to get into the spirit, even in the absence of traditional clothing, by dressing in red on Tuesday. The colour red is thought to symbolize good luck, so please help us usher in the Lunar New Year with some colourful good fortune!
